Saongwon to Roll Out ‘Crispy Kimchi Pancake’ at Costco in 13 Countries

Traditional Korean frozen food company Saongwon Co., Ltd. (CEO: Lee Ji-in) announced that its master-jeon brand product, Crispy Kimchi Pancake, will be sequentially launched at Costco stores in 13 countries, including South Korea.

The launch countries include South Korea, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Iceland, Spain, France, Taiwan, Japan, China, Australia, and New Zealand. Through this global distribution channel, Saongwon aims to introduce kimchi pancakes—one of Korea’s  traditional dishes—to a wider international audience and further expand the global presence of K-food.

Saongwon’s Crispy Kimchi Pancake is a global version renewed based on the product previously sold at Costco, reformulated to meet export raw material standards. In particular, kimchi made without salted seafood (jeotgal) is used as the main ingredient, reflecting overseas consumer preferences and dietary characteristics, while maintaining the original flavor and improving accessibility for global consumers.

In addition, larger kimchi pieces have been applied compared to the previous version, enhancing the crunchy texture felt in every bite. The use of fortified wheat flour and frying mix further strengthens the product’s nutritional competitiveness.

The industry views this launch as a meaningful example that demonstrates the competitiveness of K-food, as a traditional Korean dish has successfully entered major global retail channels.

A Saongwon official stated, “We are honored to introduce Crispy Kimchi Pancake to Costco stores in 13 countries worldwide,” adding, “While preserving the authentic appeal of traditional Korean kimchi pancakes, we have carefully renewed the ingredients and texture so that global consumers can enjoy the product with ease.”

Meanwhile, Saongwon plans to continue expanding its K-food product lineup and strengthening brand competitiveness in the traditional Korean frozen food market by increasing touchpoints with overseas consumers.
